At the age of eight, Fred began formal music lessons with the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto). He took on his first organist position at age 14. After graduating with a B.A. in Music Education from Calvin College University in Grand Rapids, Michigan he accepted the position of coordinating and teaching the Music Program at Calvin Christian School in Hamilton, Ontario.

He has been Accompanist and Assistant Music Director with the Orpheus since 1985 and has traveled extensively with the choir throughout Canada, the British Isles, and Europe.

Fred was appointed Music Director for the Orpheus in June 2007.
